Hypertribe Member Spotlight: HENNNY

Tell us a little bit about what you do?

So, I’m currently focused on music production. My style really is a tech house bass house. But to be honest, I don’t really like limiting myself to one kind of style. I like incorporating lots of different genres. My favourite thing is kind of playing around with the genres you wouldn’t really expect to mesh together. So, I really like producing heavy electronic music with elements of a more traditional music style like jazz or flamenco, I was looking into traditional Andean folk music the other day. I really liked kind of merging elements together and more productions that you wouldn’t expect.

How long have you been doing this?

So, at the start of the lockdown which feels like ages ago I had run out of all the DIY jobs around the house to do so, I was reading some articles about some of my favourite artists, because I’ve been doing the deejaying and I’d always liked what I heard about the world of production, but I just wasn’t sure if I could ever get into it but, one day I just kind of sat down and downloaded the free trial of Ableton. And yeah, just kind of got started really in May last year and I just started by watching YouTube tutorials and basically figuring out with lots of trial and error really.

That’s actually very impressive, nice.

Oh, thank you so much. A lot of hard work has gone into it, but also, it’s just so fun that, you know I struggle to go a day without producing. Cause it is just really like what gets me up in the morning. Of course. Yeah.

What would you say would be your biggest accomplishment in this past year?

I’m really over the moon with the radio play that I’ve got. so, I’ve been played on select radio and kiss fresh and you know I’ve been listening to kiss fresh and kiss FM for a number of years and when I found out I was going to be played on kiss fresh, my legs went weak and I couldn’t really believe it because it is really mad because You know you’ve spent so long crafting a piece of music and how many hours have gone into it. And then to imagine people bopping around and having a good time, like at the end of the day, that’s, what I want my music to achieve, people having a good time.

So, what would you say would be your sound?

so, I studied Spanish at university, and I lived in Spain for a bit, and I really like including Hispanic influences in my tracks. I’ve got a track coming out Hopefully later this year called mezcal like the alcohol. it includes a lot of lashing bars, kind of like mariachi vibes, I really like exploring, Different styles and different areas of music to really kind of put that into one track. But the main thing that I really go for is to make sure its high energy people have to have a good time.

what are your thoughts on hypertribe?

Oh, I love it. Especially since the introduction of the portal, I’m much more aware that there’s a community around us. Like you can actually kind of visualize the people who are around you see what skills people have, whether that’s, you know, songwriting, vocalist, production and it’s so easy to get in touch with people as well. Like I’ve already. Had a couple of meetings, that I’ve just arranged via the DMS on the Hypertribe portal. And then on top of that, all the help from Kimmy, like she’s really putting me in the right direction with my branding and just giving me much more of a vision. Like I always come away from my sessions with Kimmy feeling like I have an idea of what I’m doing, which I often don’t.

Is there any kind of advice for us at Hypertribe?

I think at the moment, it’s really fantastic. I’m loving the app it’s so much easier. Like I downloaded it like a week and a half ago. Um, and the fact that I can now get notifications to my phone is really, really helping me out. I don’t think I would change anything.

What advice would you give to a new Hypertribe portal member?

I think the best mantra is you never know what opportunity lies behind the door until you open that door. I would honestly say that most of my progress and like the tips I’ve learned have come from collaborating with other producers, like even just building relationship, like without collaborating with them and just chatting to them, like literally building a friendship.

so, I can send my tracks to them to get feedback and I’d give them feedback. And I find out tips and techniques they’re doing. And I mean, that applies for Vocalist songwriters, rappers, as you could even just form a friendship, it doesn’t have to be a working relationship.

do you have anything lined up in the coming months in the coming months?

I’ve got a flip of biggie smalls juicy coming out on tasty beats in April which will be a free download, which I’m very excited about. Cause I love tasty beats and at the moment I’m just trying to make as much music as possible. I’m making two or three tracks a week whilst also trying to juggle everything else. I just want to try to get up a good portfolio so I can start sending them out to labels whilst also trying to get my name out there with the free downloads, like my flip of Chaka Khan disrespectful with Mary J Blige. That’s out right now it’s a free download. I am just trying to get my name out by letting people know what my sound is.
